To celebrate the release of their amazing debut album "Up The Bracket", The Libertines are releasing a 20th Anniversary Edition in various formats via Rough Trade.
In addition to a remaster of the original album "Up The Bracket" produced by Mick Jones (The Clash), "Live at the 100 Club" is also included.
"Up The Bracket" came like a raging bull into a tired post-Britpop china store, introducing the world to The Libertines, a new band of London bohemians whose ragged tunes, red military tunics, opium-laced poetry and "live now pay never" lifestyle defined the Millennial angst of the early noughties
At the heart of the band is the blood brotherhood between the rickety Music Hall Jagger/Richards, Peter Doherty and Carl Barat, ably supported by the rock solid rhythm twins John Hassall and Gary Powell. Any bookie worth his salt would have bet that this quartet would survive more than a month or two, considering they were living life on the edge. But now, two decades later, our Byronic heroes, though older and wiser, are still fighting the good fight and making music that is just as vital as their debut. The faith, talent and zeal Doherty spoke of in their first manifesto have served them well
"Up The Bracket," rightfully considered one of the best albums of the noughties, was originally released by Rough Trade Records on October 21, 2002. The album, a heady stew of indie rock, skiffle, blues, dub and English bucolic pop, was a tremendous boost to a largely redundant music scene, helping to inspire the rebirth of guitar music and influencing countless artists who followed in its wake. "Up The Bracket," produced by The Clash's Mick Jones, takes you on a wondrously poetic journey into the band's mythical world and their fevered dreams of Albion, a land of seedy glamour, freedom, equality, brotherhood, gin palaces and chip shops. Pete, Carl, Gary and John created a timeless British rock'n'roll classic that is as relevant today as when it was released.
